MPC Swish Report 6/2/14

The MPC Swish 8th graders kept their hot streak alive this weekend by going 4-0 at Wheaton College at the NEXBall Summer Challenge.

MPC Swish 42
Bay State Magic Elite 32

In a battle of D1 state champions past and present, the Swish were challenged by Bay State Magic Elite. The Magic brought their grittiness and toughness and gave the Swish all they could handle.

In a defensive oriented first half, MPC Swish took a 20-8 lead into halftime. The second half was fairly even, but the Swish did enough to hold off the Magic in game one, 42-32.

Nicole Gallagher led the scoring charge with 15 points and Tess Sussman added 10.

MPC Swish 43
RI Breakers 31

In a D1 state title Elite 8 rematch, the RI Breakers gave a much stronger effort this time around. The Breakers did a much better job handling the Swish press and took a 20-16 lead into intermission.

The Swish came out in the second half and played much more inspired basketball – especially in the last six minutes – to secure another victory over the Breakers, 43-31.

Nicole Gallagher led the way with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals. Tess Sussman added nine points, three steals and three assists. Anna Shaughnessy chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

MPC Swish 69
Bay State Jaguars 67

In round four of this series, MPC Swish earned its fourth straight victory over the Jags this spring. It wasn’t easy, as the Jaguars gave the Swish all they could handle.

MPC Swish led wire-to-wire and took a 40-26 cushion into halftime, but saw its lead severely cut down in the second half thanks to inspired play from Ashley Ducharme, Janai Crooms, Kendall Currence and Asiah Dingle.

Despite many runs and tough full court defense by the Jags, the Swish refused to lose this one. Ashley Sampson was once again stellar against the Jaguars as she led the way with 22 points and three assists. Backcourt mate Nicole Gallagher added 16 points and six rebounds. Kiera Fernandes registered 14 points (including 8 straight in a matter of a minute in the second half) and six rebounds. Anna Shaughnessy scored 12 points and six rebounds in limited minutes due to foul trouble.

MPC Swish 41
Millis Pride 25

MPC Swish finished its perfect weekend with a win over Millis Pride, 41-25. Kaitlyn Guenet led the way with eight points. Nicole Gallagher scored seven and Shannon Lynch chipped in with six points.

MPC Swish improved to 35-2 on the season and remain undefeated against other 8th grade teams.
