7th Grade Boys Notebook - January 28th

  • Hornets Sting Attleboro

Mansfield has a quote “Teammates First” on their warm-up shirts and coach Paul Mordarski told me the boys lived up to that mantra when they knocked off the number-one ranked Attleboro squad this past Sunday.

“Given Attleboro’s skill level, the boys consistently needed to pick each other up in a positive manner,” said Mordarski. “Without that positive attitude, we lose for sure.”

He also attributed the unselfish mindset to some steady, patient and effective half court offense.

However, it was the intense, disciplined defense that carried the day holding Attleboro, a team that regularly scores above 60, to 45 points. Mansfield mixed defenses throughout the game to keep Attleboro of balance.

Nine players on Mansfield found their way into the scoring column led by John Carney’s 11 points.

  • Newton Back in Win Column

(5)Belmont 58

As sixth graders, Newton rolled to an undefeated record. This year, they have some blemishes on the record, but recorded a quality win over the weekend against a strong Belmont squad.

This squad will be scary come playoff time. The Newton basketball program is as strong as it gets and this team is one of the strongest in their program.

  • North Quincy Downs Westwood

North Quincy 59
(22)Westwood 51

North Quincy earned a quality win over Westwood on Sunday, 59-51.

"It was a tough, hard fought game, each team had its own share of runs and competed until the final whistle,” said North Quincy coach Kyle Costa. “I think our team defense and guys being locked into their assignments helped us to get the victory."

Franck Yhomby led the way with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Declan O’Sullivan chipped in 12 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.
