The seventh grade Wareham boys’ basketball team is the
reigning division-2 state champion and is off to another strong start in 2014-2015. They are
6-2 in Cape League play and 14-3 overall. They took (1)Attleboro down to the
wire of the Hanover Holiday Classic before losing in overtime and have beaten
Middleboro, Monomoy, Nauset and New Bedford in league play.
Led by trio Dominic Mello, Joey Silvia and Syler King,
the Vikings are certainly not a team to be taken lightly. Coach Joseph Silvia
Jr. credits his team’s ability to rise to the occasion of any
game and their hard work as keys to their success.
“They’re a great group of kids that just show up and play
on game day,” said Silvia.
Rounding out the roster are Erik Zine, Brian Whitney,
Jackson Cote, Brice Fernandes and Aaron James.
As proud as Silvia is of his
team’s on the court accomplishments, he was quick to cite their dedication to
the classroom.
“All players are either honor or high honor roll students
which means a lot in prepping them to be high school student-athletes,” said
Silvia. “They work just as hard in the classroom as they do on the court.”
We are looking forward to seeing the Vikings play on MLK day.
